Neil Teitelbaum (Canadian & US Patent Agent, Electrical Engineer) served as Vice President of Global Intellectual Property for JDS Uniphase from 2000-2003.  Prior to 2000 Teitelbaum was in private practice.  The firm of Neil Teitelbaum and Associates represented JDS Uniphase, the National Research Council of Canada, Communications Research Centre, Photonics Research Ontario, University of Quebec, Canadian Space Agency, Alberta Research Council, McGill University, Dew Engineering and Development, Flexicoil, American Biometrics, Chrysalis-ITS Inc., Solidum, and many other high tech companies preparing and filing patent applications worldwide.  Neil is a graduate of Ottawa University with a degree in Electrical (Computer) Engineering, having moved from a teaching career that included two years teaching in Africa while acting as a Headmaster of a Secondary school.

Doug MacLean (Canadian & US Patent Agent, Mechanical Engineer) began his career at a small Ottawa patent agent firm after graduating from Carleton University in 1988 with a Mechanical Engineering degree.  Doug trained in all aspects of intellectual property, including trademark, industrial design and patent searching, as well as industrial design and patent drafting and prosecution.  Doug was awarded the Marie Morency Prize in 1991 for obtaining the highest mark on the Patent Drafting Section of the Patent Agents Exam.  Subsequently, Doug worked for the Ottawa office of a large international patent firm becoming proficient in all aspects of Canadian prosecution.  Doug then joined Neil and his team in corporate practice at JDS Uniphase Inc, becoming familiar with photonics and optics.

Karen Stauss joined Neil in his private practice in 1997 after 10 years of training and work in the field beginning in Arlington, VA then relocating to Ottawa.  Karen continued to work with Neil and his group at JDS Uniphase Inc managing prosecution of the active components portfolio.  Since qualifying for the Register of Patent Agents in 1994, Karen has represented a broad spectrum of clients in mechanical arts ranging from farm and medical equipment to machine vision and optical amplifiers.  Karen graduated from McGill University in 1987 with a Bachelor of Arts, Honours in Russian, and a strong affinity for language.

Jennifer McCann has a PhD in chemistry from the University of Calgary. Jennifer is a Registered Patent Agent and has been with Neil's firm since 1999. Jennifer has extensive experience in all aspects of the patent process, including the drafting and prosecution of patents both foreign and domestic. Jennifer's expertise ranges from chemical inventions to all aspects of fiber optics.

Alex Tager (Electrical Engineer, PhD in Engineering Physics) graduated from The Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MFTI) in 1980 with a specialization in Quantum Electronics and Solid State Devices. In 1988 he obtained a PhD degree from the Institute of Radio-Engineering & Electronics, of the Russian Academy of Science (IRE RAS), in Moscow. From 1980 till 1991 Alex was with the IRE RAS, becoming a Senior Staff Member of the Institute in 1988. From the end of 1991 till 1995 he held Visiting Scientist positions with the Technische Universität Berlin, Institut für Hochfrequenztechnik, Germany, and Cornell University, Ithaca, New York. From 1995 till 1998 Alex held a Research Associate position with the University of Toronto. In 1998 Alex joined JDS Uniphase Inc, where he was a Group Leader in the Strategic Research department. Alex was a Senior Optical System Designer with Ceyba Incorporated from 2000 to 2003. Neil recognized Alex's aptitude for patent matters while collaborating on a patent application for one of Alex's inventions, while working for JDS, and was thrilled when Alex finally accepted his offer to work with Teitelbaum and MacLean in September 2003.

Mikelis (Mik) Svilans (Computer Scientist, Electrical Engineer) graduated as a Dr. Ing. from the Institute of Semiconductor Electronics, Aachen Technical University. Mik has been a Member of the Scientific Staff with the Advanced Technology Laboratory of Nortel Networks (formerly Bell-Northern Research), engaged in all aspects of compound semiconductor material growth, processing and characterization, as well as the design and characterization of high-speed integrated circuits and optoelectronic devices, such as lasers and photodetectors based on GaAs and InP. During this time he was engaged in several university collaborations, most notably with Prof. Tetu of COPL, Laval University on the application of frequency standards to tunable semiconductor lasers. Mik was Senior Scientist specializing in optics design in R&D at JDS Uniphase Inc from 1999 to 2004. Neil discovered Mik's affinity for patents while working together at JDS on a patent application for one of Mik's inventions, and sought him out to work with Teitelbaum and MacLean in April 2005.

Elena Taguer graduated from the Department of Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics of the Moscow State University, and received an advanced degree from the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, where she specialized in signal processing, spectral analysis, and numerical simulation in radio physics.  In Canada, Elena worked in the area of matrix computations at McMaster University, was involved in development of software for electronic payment processing at Oasis Technology Ltd, Toronto, and for data and voice networking at Nortel Networks.

Allison Mills obtained a PhD in chemistry from the University of Alberta in 2001.  She then worked as a crystallographer in the Netherlands and as a research associate in Germany.  Prior to joining Teitelbaum & MacLean, she was an editor for the journal Angewandte Chemie in Germany.

Oleg Bouevitch received his M.Sc. in Physics from Moscow State University in 1987.  His Ph.D. research was devoted to application of non-linear optics in biophysics.  Oleg’s R&D experience covers the areas of ultrafast fiber lasers and non-linear optics, electro-optics, telecommunications, liquid crystal displays, biophysics, and photochemistry.  Oleg’s most recent positions include Optomechanical Section Leader at IMRA America, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA (2004-2008), and Engineering Manager at JDS Uniphase in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada (1997-2003).
